The design of the product page for the newest 3D-printer from Ultimaker.

A grand campaign revealed Ultimaker’s newest 3D-Printer. A co-worker and I were given carte blanche to design the product page. My former art teacher used to tell me I was afraid of the blank canvas. This project proved otherwise!

Like a children’s pop-up book the printer could be explored in all sorts of ways.

How do you inform potential customers and 3D printing fanatics about the features of 3D-printing? The printer was introduced to the user bit by bit. I got my inspiration from the pop-up books from my youth. The pages were designed in such a way that it persuaded users to playfully discover the printer’s possibilities with the most important facts on the surface but then also more in depthe details provided for the expert.

Ultimaker: "How many hexacons would you like to use?" We: "Yes."

The Product Owner advised us about important facts that had to be used. When we had wild ideas, he made sure the proper content was created. A video and 3D-render were created to fit into the new product page.

As the same time as this the new product was launched Ultimaker decided to do a brand refresh. Where the design involved hexagons. Inspired by this, we decided to use the hexagon to the extreme. It became the backbone of the design.
